Hello all,
We're running out of space on our current DLT1 and DLT4000 tape
drives, so I'm going to be upgrading quite soon. Our current backup
solution is as follows.
Win2k DC #1 (the original lone server is a SQL server, file server,
DHCP, DNS, etc) - using arcserve to backup to DLT1
Win2k DC...

Data integrity on serial ATA disk drives by
Robert Kindred
I've seen a lot of switching over from IDE disks to serial ATA disks. In
fact, an Intel blade server we want to purchase does not have any choice.
The question I have not been able to answer is, "Do they provide the special
services that high reliability systems need?"
What I mean by that is...

nfs ops to iops formula? by
Faeandar
Is there something that will do this type of conversion? Some formula
or rule of thumb? Something other than just taking a time sample of
both sides and averaging it.
Thanks.

netapp downtime by

Having managed an environment with 30 netapp filers (200 plus TBs) for
over 5 years, I find myself constantly struggling with issues of
downtime. As the technology is clustered and not N+1, for replacing
disk controllers, for upgrading the level of ONTAP, for replacing any

Netapp F760 upgrade by
Fabio Erri
Hello,
we currently have a Netapp F760 with two FC9 shelfs doing NFS storage
for mail servers.
We have experienced a lack of performance in the last weeks: the cpu
level is still under 50%, so we suppose that the problem is the
read/write access to disks.
In your opinion, upgrading to F8xx NAS...

Beginner's question on RAID 1+0 by
Maxim S. Shatskih
What is RAID 1+0? A mirror of 2 stripe sets? Or a a stripe assembled
from lots of 2-disk mirrors?
I've heard that one of those ways is bad, and thus the widely used RAID 1+0
uses the second way. Why the first way is bad?

Brocade help: can't see drives through only one switch by
Ben
I am having a problem with a Brocade 2400 switch: I can't see the
drives (Sun T3 RAID units) from Linux hosts with Qlogic QLA2342 cards
also connected to the switch. Each device is connected directly to the
switch (no loops), and the switch sees the devices on each port. The
Linux servers just...

Best backup strategy when there is lots of re-structuring on HDD? by
Peter Frank
Hi,
I know there is backup software that allows incremental and
differential backups so that it isn't always necessary to backup
everything even if only some data were added or changed.
The problem is that in my case there is also a lot of re-structuring
going on with my data, i.e. data move from...

that meets these criteria:
- Uses tape libraries that run AIT2, AIT3, LTO2, and LTO3 drives,

doesn't support AIT)
- Works flawlessly over a SAN
